At DIY Sobriety, we believe that there is not a "one size fits all" solution to sobriety. We also believe that there is an overdue need for a space for those struggling with addiction to freely share what has worked and not worked for them, to debate traditional beliefs/theories/doctrines/treatments and to ultimately connect with others with similar struggles so that each individual can find their own unique path to happiness, health or whatever their ultimate goal may be.
It has been made abundantly and painfully and mortally clear for decades that there is no "magic pill" (pun intended) to properly address addiction issues, yet some prescribed solutions continue to be recommended or even court ordered.
So why not discuss the "elephants in the room" openly and challenge traditional belief systems so that like-minded (or like-issued?) individuals can learn from each other and find out what may work best for them in their own unique situation?
Despite what many believe, not all addicts are created equal - every single one of us is an individual with wildly varying backgrounds, issues, personalities, goals, family situations, etc.... In the age of inclusion, why would we want to treat millions of people as one homogenous group with often times only one "solution" to their unique set of problems? Diversity of thought is valuable (news flash y'all), even for those struggling with addiction (maybe especially for those whose personalities may lend them to be more prone to addiction issues) and this is the place for those thoughts and ideas (and hopefully dissenting opinions) to flow.
Thus, the DIY Sobriety (DIY is short for "do it yourself" for those of you who may be a bit slow on the uptake) movement is born (because I am birthing it as I type this - ouch!).
If this site helps one person to be better, feel better, live better (whatever that means to an individual) - then it is worth every second of investment!
